Team USA – September 21, 2016

Colorado Springs – USA Boxing recently welcomed 11 of the country’s most talented female boxers for the 2016 Youth Women’s National Team Training Camp at the U.S. Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. The camp is an element of USA Boxing’s national team athlete program under the direction of High Performance Director Matthew Johnson. The camp will run from Monday, September 19 until Saturday, September 24, 2016.

The 11-member group includes three elite athletes – 2016 Olympian Mikaela Mayer (Los Angeles, Calif.), Olympic Trials Champion Virginia Fuchs (Houston, Texas) and 2016 World Championships contender Christina Cruz (New York, N.Y.). Training alongside the trio of talent is eight youth boxers looking for a shot at making a name for themselves on the national level: Mia Valadez, Jazzelle Bobadilla, Yarisel Ramirez, Diana Estrada, Andrea Medina, Kylie Hall, Oshae Jones and Chayanne Carroll.

The camp runs from Monday, September 19 until Saturday, September 24, 2016. All 11 females will have an amazing opportunity to be tested in the Dari system.  The Dari system is used by some of the top college athletic programs in the country as well as being used by clubs in the NBA, NFL and more.  This system calculates every piece of math the human body creates during each movement; every angle, speed, velocity and force is taken into account.  Athletes will participate in strength and conditioning sessions with the United States Olympic Committee athletic trainers, skill training from USA Boxing Women’s National Team Head Coach Billy Walsh and Men’s Associate Head Coach Kay Koroma and USADA presentations to help better understand the vitamins and supplements they can and can not use. In addition to daily training, USA Boxing will hold daily study tables mandatory for all National team athletes currently enrolled in high school.
